I’m Monkii, a contemporary artist based in Drammen, Norway. My birth name is Veronica Freberg, and I was born on September 6, 1992. I create artwork that explores identity, human experience, and the stories we carry within us. I’m entirely self-taught and began my journey with drawing and painting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many, I found myself seeking creative outlets during those uncertain times, and what began as a personal escape quickly evolved into a deeper calling.

My art is an expression of both personal discovery and a deep exploration of the incredible universe we’re all magically a part of. I work primarily in pop art with acrylics on canvas, creating wild characters with oversized heads—symbolizing the overthinking most of us carry. The transgender bodies in my work reflect my own journey with gender identity and serve as a testament to the fluidity and complexity of our existence.

Each of my pieces tells a personal story, a narrative from my life, emotions, or reflections. I invite you to explore the meaning behind each painting—click on the artwork for a deeper connection to its story.

In addition to pop art, I create what I call “soul art.” These pieces are deeply therapeutic for me—channeling my personal history, my growth, and my emotional landscape. Through painting, I confront past experiences and embrace the transformative power of creativity. It is a truly healing process.

My inspiration also stems from meditation, philosophy, and the exploration of deeper human consciousness. Sometimes, however, I simply create to evoke joy and humor. After all, life is as much about laughter as it is about introspection.

​

I believe that art should be a reflection of the human experience in all its forms, and my work aims to encourage introspection, freedom, and emotional release. Life is too precious to be taken too seriously, and through my art, I hope to inspire others to find joy and meaning in their own journeys.
